Therapies

Below are futher details of the types of massage treatments that KRT provide. For further information or would like to discuss your treatment options please do contact Colin on 01795 873452.

Massage

Massage is the manipulation of soft tissue such as muscles, tendons and to a lesser extent, ligaments by the hands of the therapist. Massage will be applied deep; shallow or somewhere in between depending on what the client needs or wants, this depth of massage is something that would be discussed between the therapist and the client.

Massage at KRT may apply different techniques depending on the results that want to be obtained, whether the massage is to aid repair of an injury, to relax the muscles or stimulate the muscles ready for participation in a sporting event will determine the approach the therapist would use.

At KRT we offer Swedish holistic, remedial and sports massage and may involve the client being treated while lying on a massage table, or lying on a mat on the floor. The massage subject may be fully or partly clothed. Oils are usually used to aid to movement of the therapists hands. Modesty will be maintained at all times, the body being covered with towels or sheets with only the areas being treated uncovered.

Holistic Massage

Improves muscle tone, blood and lymph circulation, reduces stress within the body and helps to develop a feeling of well-being. Whether you feel you need a massage to pep up the muscles to get you going or after a days work if you feel the need to chill out and relax then this is the treatment for you.

Remedial Massage

Used to treat injuries (not requiring surgery), to the soft tissues  - the muscles, tendons and ligaments.

These may have been caused as a result from participation in a sport, which is why this is often referred to as sports therapy. Injuries may also have been as a result of a fall, a car accident, 'pulling' a muscle or a simple knock.  These injuries can happen to anyone going about their normal daily business, young or old irrespective of their activity level.

A constant build up of tension in the muscles from a regular activity or following and accident or surgery may lead to stresses on joints, ligaments, tendons, as well as the muscles themselves.

These muscle imbalances may develop and often go undiagnosed until they are serious enough to cause discomfort or impede performance. The massage therapist will be able to detect variations in the soft tissues and by using the correct techniques, help to restore a much healthier physical state.

The use of remedial therapy can be used to treat most soft tissue injuries. A course of treatment may be required depending on the extent and location of the injury.

Sports Massage

Sports massage usually involves treatment either just before of just after an event, usually within 1-2 hours.

The aim of pre treatment is to prepare the muscles for the work of an event by heating up the area through the stimulation of the blood vessels with fairly vigorous and deep massage.

Post event massage is aimed at improving the circulation to assist with removal of the build up of Lactic acid and so minimise the stiffness that can follow after exercise.

Massage Therapist

The main target of the massage therapist are the muscles, the tendons and the ligaments.

Issues relating to bones and joints are better dealt with by other professionals.
